This workshop will give attendees the opportunity to have hands-on insertion and removal with both hormonal and non-hormonal IUD types. Selection criteria for a long-acting reversible contraceptive (LARC), as well as indications and contraindications, patient education, potential complications and management recommendations will be covered. Attendees will work with multiple insertion simulation techniques, culminating in the opportunity for certification for IUD insertion.  

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this session, participants should be able to:
⦁ Review the indications for the selection of an intrauterine device (IUD)/intrauterine system (IUS)
⦁ Describe the contraindications and necessary patient education before choosing an IUD/IUS
⦁ Given a patient scenario, correctly select an appropriate form of contraception
⦁ Correctly perform an IUD/IUS insertion and removal
