Thyroid Eye Disease (TED), also known as Graves’ Ophthalmopathy or Orbitopathy, is an autoimmune condition often associated with Graves’ disease, though it can occur independently. It presents unique challenges in identification and treatment and requires a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach for optimal management. Advanced practice providers, including nurse practitioners and physician associates, play a crucial role in identifying, managing, and coordinating care for patients with TED. Regular monitoring of thyroid function, eye health, and response to treatment is essential. Adjustments in the management plan should be made based on the patient’s evolving condition and considerations of the patient’s response to treatment.
In this continuing education activity, experts in the field will discuss the management of TED using an interprofessional approach and by exploring specific patient cases. By understanding the disease process and the roles of various team members, the healthcare team can play an important role in enhancing the patient’s journey through this disease.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this session, participants should be able to:
• Evaluate the prevalence, symptomology, and various techniques for screening and diagnosing thyroid eye disease
• Outline interprofessional management strategies for patients with thyroid eye disease using the latest data
