Advanced Medical Education for the Physician Assistant The School of Medical Sciences (SMS), Doctor of Medical Science (DMS) is an advanced medical training program for Physician Assistants. The medical curriculum is taught by Physicians who are experts in their field of medicine. Utilizing a mixture of synchronous and asynchronous online didactics, the case-based curriculum design allows the DMS candidates to interact with and learn from these Physician experts. SMS-DMS curriculum equips the DMS candidates with: 1. An increased depth and breadth of medical knowledge 2. Increased confidence in more complex patient care 3. Credentials for new leadership roles 4. Advanced competence as a medical educator 5. A competitive edge in the PA Profession In our clinical medicine major, DMS candidates chose a specialty in addition to the 12-month core clinical curriculum: • Internal Medicine • Emergency Medicine • Primary Care Medicine • Medical Education We also offer a 12-month medical education major. This medical education major offers formal training in education to create a culture of educational excellence in the PA education community at large. Candidates will acquire knowledge and skills to design high-quality educational programs for healthcare professionals; refine leadership skills; and develop their research and writing skills.
